Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, Poland, EU

Position: Associate Professor in Silesian University of Technology, Faculty of Materials Engineering and Metallurgy, Head of the Division of Extractive Metallurgy and Foundry

At the METAL 2016 conference Dr. Saternus will deliver the invited lecture at the session E - Non-Ferrous Metals and Alloys.

Education:

Scientific and research activities:

Scientific and research activities is concerned on the extractive metallurgy; especially aluminium refining process by inert gases. The experimental research are carried out both in the industry and using water models of the refining reactors, and they are implemented by the numerical simulations conducted by means of commercial calculation codes from the range of numerical mechanics of fluids. The research is also concerned on the possibilities to recovery the PGM metals, especially platinum from used auto catalyst (one patent: Fornalczyk A, Przyłucki R., Saternus M., Golak S., Kazimierz R., Sikora B., Kężel Z., Chruślicki W.: The way of PGM metals recovery from used auto catalyst P-397933).

The research was conducted as a part of projects (24) - individual (in two as a principal investigator), supervisors and own and statute works:

The results of conducted research was presented on many domestic and international conferences (Sohn Symposium organized by TMS - San Diego, USA 2006; LMPC 2007 – Nancy, Francja; LMPC 2009 - Santa Fe, USA; PRICM – Cairns, Australia 2010; SF2M 2011 – Nancy, Francja; Thermec – Quebec, Canada 2011; SHMD 2012, 2014, Sibenik, Croatia; Biotechnology&Metals 2014, Kosice, Slovakia; Metal 2015 - Brno, Czech Republic) and published as article (about 90) in domestic and international journals including JCR list (34).

Some articles from the last five years (from Web of Science):

She is coauthor of four academic books for students concerning chemistry in Polish and English, as well as hydrometallurgy and biometallurgy and author of the monography: Refining process of aluminium and its alloys by means of argon blowing, Wydawnictwo Politechniki Śląskiej, Gliwice, 2011. This work presents the analysis of the desorption process of hydrogen from aluminium conducted in URO-200 and URC-7000 reactors basing on the conducted modelling research and mathematical simulations. The worked out physical model gives the possibility to determine the optimal processing parameters such as flow rate of refining gas or rotary impeller speed. The conducted numerical calculations enable to verify the results obtained from physical modelling. The physical and numerical modelling complemented each other, thus the application of the results in the industrial conditions is quite easier.

She was 11 times awarded by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technologies for the scientific, organizing and didactic activities. She is reviewer of Polish and Slovak projects (NCN, NCBiR, APVV) and articles in many journals (Journal of Achievements in Materials and Manufacturing Engineering, Journal of Materials Science and Engineering, Solid State Phenomena, Archives of Metallurgy and Materials, Materials Research). Took part in some study visit in Helsinki, Finland (Research for Country`s Economy – effective management of research and commercialization of research results), Technical University of Kosice TUKE, Slovak Republic and VSB in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
